The Katsina State Ministry of Health has successfully concluded a four-day intensive training programme on the Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM), aimed at equipping health workers with modern skills to tackle child malnutrition. The training ended on Friday, 11 July 2025, at the Alhujrat Conference Hall in Katsina.

The programme was organised in collaboration with the World Bank and the Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ANRiN) initiative. It is part of the broader health sector reform known as the Sector Wide Approach (SWAp), which promotes coordinated implementation of health interventions among all stakeholders to ensure consistency and quality across the state.

Commissioner for Health, Hon. Musa Adamu Funtua, expressed gratitude to the World Bank and ANRiN for their support, describing the training as a significant milestone in Katsina’s efforts to combat malnutrition and improve child health.

“This training will play a major role in reducing the prevalence of nutrition-related illnesses among children,” the commissioner stated.

He added that the initiative aligns with the current administration's commitment under Governor Malam Dikko Umar Radda to addressing food insecurity in the state. According to him, the government has distributed improved seeds, fertilisers, and modern farming equipment to all 34 local government areas through the Katsina State Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KATARDA), alongside training for farmers to boost the production of nutritious food.

The Commissioner concluded by calling on community members, civil society organisations, leaders, and other stakeholders to support efforts towards ensuring access to quality nutrition as a critical step toward improving public health in Katsina State.
